base-installer software package provides base system installation framework, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.10 (Yakkety Yak) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install base-installer
base-installer is installed in your system.
Make ensure the base-installer package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep base-installer *
You will get with base-installer package name, version, architecture and description in a table
